What do you think of the new header?

Reader-submitted complaint: Hi Megan. Your new look makes you look like a suppliant. Is the Grammar Nazi a suppliant? I'm surprised. Of course, human realities are always more complex than media projections!

Really? I hadn't thought about her arm position when I put her up there. I think she looks like she's thinking really hard, or maybe shivering. Perhaps we each see what we want to see in that image. That might explain why you think she's praying. Maybe she's praying for a longer skirt.

I think it's better than the plain text that was there before, but I'm not sure if this particular image is working. She does look a lot like me, and I like the snow. It is harder than I thought it would be to find a single image that represents this blog and will work in the header.

What do the rest of you think?

P.S. Wait, YOU call me the Grammar Nazi, too?

Hadn't noticed the hand position, though I agree about the praying pose. I think she's cute and very sweet. She reminds me of Japanese anime girls. Having said that, I don't think she quite conveys the sharp witted, sardonic side of you (which is most of this blog, non?)

Remember in MIB (the first one) when Will Smith is taking the test and he picks the little girl with the heavy book as the most dangerous and blows her away. Sorry. That's what she reminds me of.

Hmmm. I like that take on her: the little girl who picks up the newspaper and tries to rip your throat out. :)

Is she at least better than the plain text that was there before? And what do you think of the font?

"P.S. Wait, YOU call me the Grammar Nazi, too?"

I taught English grammar for a living, for nine years. Nevertheless, you frighten me.

Like you said - we all see what we want to see in different images. I kind of like her - and depending on the time of year it COULD be that she's praying for more snow, less snow, a longer skirt or...

BTW - how do you go about putting in "Shared Items" instead of a regular Blogroll? I can't seem to figure it out but I'm guessing it has something to do with Feedburner.

Trudie, there are several ways to set up this type of blogroll, but I set mine up through Google Reader.

To do this, you’ll need a Google Reader account and you’ll need to subscribe to the RSS feeds for all of the blogs you want to put on your sidebar. From inside Google Reader, click Settings and then Tags. Make your Share tag public, and click Add A Clip To Your Site. It’ll give you a code you can paste into your blog.

Then as you go through your feeds, click Share on all of the posts you want to put into your sidebar. It automatically refreshes itself on your site.

I've set it up so I have both "shared" and "starred" items. I did it this way because I wanted to give a little extra profile to the people who used to be in my blogroll, like my brothers. Those people are "starred" and go in the "awesome posts..." box instead of the other one. It refreshes itself every few days, whereas the other one refreshes itself about once a day.

Hi Megan,

My aunt and uncle are moving up north to teach! I'm not sure of the location. Do you have any advice for them?

I like it. It's very whimsical, and the text is wintery.

Grammar Nazi?
wow....

Anyhow, I sort of like her too.
Looks cute, but not too cute :)

It does have a little of the anime look about it. I'm thinking it fits into a certain "Sad Girls in Snow" motif I have seen elsewhere.

I've been holding back. I'm also in the middle of two final papers.

I can't stand the text on this one. Those stinkin' snowflakes make funny illusions with the letters and it's hard to read.

And the cartoon-y girly-girl just doesn't seem like the strong, authoritative, witty you that we all know and love in your writing.

As a graphic designer in a past age (three years ago during undergrad), I will try to take this into consideration in the next week or so. But like I said, finals.

Thanks: that would be great.

This is more difficult than I thought it would be, although I'm not sure what I expected it to be like.

We have established that the girl is cute. The question is whether she is TOO cute. Although I am many things, I am not really cute. A dear friend of mine hesitated before saying that I am "fierce". My own mother suggested that a female Nazi might be appropriate.

I should probably state for the record that I do not want Nazis in the header.

No worries; no Nazis. To get my brain going, do you have an pictures you really like? Of you or an outdoor setting, even something abstract. Maybe I can do something with it, either with some Photoshop or Illustrator.

Well, I am not a photographer, but I can point you to some sites with photos of this region. If you find a photo that really works, I can contact the photographer to arrange for the rights to use it.
